This should be interesting. Will you be using a flight data recorder now that you are flying electric, something like the eagle tree? Some may find this interesting. It could show volts, current draw, pack and battery temps etc for 40gms extra weight. Could be useful for electric flyers!

By the way, I was impressed by the power the 600E has.

Yeah Aurorra have offered to send me one, but they haven't yet. Other than for personal fault finding i'm unsure about how useful the sort of information you would get would be to anyone other than me. This is because it will be so dependant on how the person actually flies, the sorts of maneuveres they do.

E.g. some one who just hovers and small circuits is gunnu have very low peak current draw, packs aren't gunnu get warm and they're gunnu last a lot longer per flight and overall life as well. Everything will be a little higher for say an f3c flyer or someone who does smooth gentle aerobatics like loops rolls, bit of inverted etc. Then for 3D it will be higher again, but again so dependant on the flier. Some-one like Steve Gerrard would almost be able to kill any pack in a few flights if he tried (i know this because he has), theres nothing hugely techincal about what he's doing most of the time, its just very agressive, where as someone like me or Trev Burley will do techincal flying which is smoother and therefore is drawing a lower rate of amps. The high discharge rate is apparently what kills the packs, this causes them to get warmer which shortens the pack life.

Very true, in all that you said!

I think some would find it interesting, especially if you remember which manoeuvres you were practising at the time! You could see power hungry manoeuvres and how that actually relates to the power system (Which in turn would relate to a Nitro too). I suppose it could also help you to smooth out certain manoeuvres, not all; obviously, as some actually need the power!

It could give some the insight into what is actually involved in 3D flying too e.g. using too much collective in some manoeuvres and not enough in others!

Paddy - How is your ariel mounted ?, any chance its moving when you move the heli to the affected attitude ?

Could be a dodgy joint or broken ariel wire.

BTW - WHERE WERE YOU ??? (camera was at the ready) ;)

Tried different Rx's, one being brand new so ariel was fine. See flight log for latest finding, turned out to be shielding or de-tuning of ariel by the airframe. Bought a 2.4ghz radio now, thats fixed it. Was going to waste too much time fiddling otherwise.

Get yourself a cheap infra red thermometer. Quick and easy to use and can keep a proper check on temps! Maplin does a small one for £15 ish. Nice to know what your packs are doing and your motor!

I'm assuming you mean the in flight data recorder snappy mentioned earlier, unfortunately haven't been sent one yet, but i'll see if i can get one, especially since quite a few people are asking for it.
Flippin singapore sling has taken a step backwards :(

I think more people are starting to take electric seriously. Lipo prices have dropped a bit and esc's and motors are getting better.

In flight logs can make for interesting readings and can help with pack selection, pinions etc. You can see what your system is delivering and if it can be tweaked. Not using much from the pack in terms of watts and amps, you could try a larger pinion. Taking too much or the motors heating up, as in being stressed, reduce it etc.

We often see hobbyists logs but not a log from a competition pilot. That's why I suggested it.
